A Defense of the Hebrew Bible
Available November 3, 2025
In Carpzov’s reply to Whiston, the integrity of the Hebrew Bible that we commonly refer to as the Masoretic Text is defended against claims that we ought to use the Greek Septuagint and the Samaritan Pentateuch to correct the readings of the Old Testament, and that Josephus is a more reliable witness than the Hebrew Bible. Carpzov also tackles claims that the Jews edited the Bible in order to corrupt the meaning of the Old Testament, and shows forth the purity of God’s Word as delivered in the ancient Hebrew tongue. He argues against claims that the Hebrew square script is a modern invention, drawing from Christian theologians across the centuries, as well as from Scripture itself.
